What to Know About Acrylic Concrete Sealers

There are different types of concrete sealers and acrylic sealers are one of the common options available. When you apply an acrylic sealer, it will bond to the concrete surface and give it a beautiful finish depending on what you have chosen. You can have wet look finishes, and low and high gloss finishes.

You can use acrylic sealers with a variety of concrete surfaces such as aggregate concrete, pavers, brick surfaces and stamped concrete. Acrylic sealer is more of a category and you will have so many products and types under it. You can view some of the products at concretecoloursystems.com.au. These vary according to the additives and other ingredients that are in it. You can have combination sealers which include acrylic and a sealer that provides good water repellent properties. These are enhanced acrylic sealers. There are acrylic co-polymer sealers that have styrene combined with the acrylic which makes it a cure as well as a seal. You can also find sealers that don’t have styrene and these are called acrylic lacquer sealers.                Acrylic sealers can be suspended in water or in a solvent. These will be known as water based or solvent based acrylic sealers. There are even acrylic latex sealers that have latex in it. These are not very durable, however.

When you are purchasing an acrylic sealer

You need to check what applications it has been designed for. This will ensure that you get the maximum performance out of it. Also, there can be many variations when it comes to different brands and manufacturers. So you definitely will not be able to mix acrylic sealers from different companies. Both recycled and non-recycled resin can be used in the acrylic sealer manufacturing process. These two types have different durability levels as the recycled resin sealers will have some chemicals that were used in the recycling process which can contribute to weakening of the sealer. So you will notice that non-recycled resin acrylic sealers tend to last a lot longer.

If you are looking for a more breathable acrylic sealer, you will need to select a type that will have a lower percentage of solids. For example, if you have 15% solids, then it will be more breathable. A higher percentage in the range of 25-30% will result in a less breathable acrylic. It is best to stick to 15% or maximum 25% as higher percentages can lead to coating failure. The breathable coatings are used for dense concrete surfaces that need to breathe. There are differences between water and solvent based acrylic sealers. You will not need additional preparation when it comes to solvent based acrylic sealers. You will be able to achieve a higher gloss finish with solvent sealers. Consider what you want the final finish to be like when choosing a sealer. You will be able to improve the appearance of the concrete by giving it a wet or glossy look. You can have the sealer as clear or colour options.
